The Move-a-Week Log, Weeks 1-5

Welcome one and all to a new section of the blog! Last year, I made it a goal to try and watch one new movie a week–I had been falling back into my old comfort watches, and I figured if I’m going to be making and writing movies in the future, watching The Blue Brothers for the millionth time probably wouldn’t be much help.

However, I quickly lost momentum with that goal, as work and then moving really got in the way. This year, I’m giving myself the goal again and planning to follow through with it. 52 weeks in the year, 52 movies. That’s a pretty good goal, yeah?

New Year, New Life Update

It feels like months since I have last written a blog post, but really it’s only been one.

I’ve written three drafts of this blog post, each one not feeling right. That may be my inner critic talking, bashing me down. Truth be told, a lot has happened in only a few months, and it’s hard to figure out where to start.

Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden – Book Review

This is part two of four of the books I read during Pride month (or rather, for Pride—I am a rather slow reader, or even a mood reader sometimes). On my quest to find more queer literature to read, especially ones with happy endings, I came upon the lesbian classic Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden. Published in 1982, the novel follows Liza Winthrop and Annie Kenyon meeting, becoming close friends, and soon developing a romance.

Book Review–The Secret of Lillian Velvet

It’s no secret that Australian author Jaclyn Moriarty is one of my favorites. Her characters always feel so alive, and her stories are always keep me guessing until the last page.

The Sporadic Life Update

Well, here we are again. One year of this blog being official.

What has happened in the one year? I’ve already talked about my job closing down, grief, and seeing my favorite podcast live (still one of the top ten moments in the year). What else? It’s like when people ask you “how was school?” and you have to try REALLY hard about what school ACTUALLY has been like. Otherwise, everything goes out the ears.

Life is Strange: Steph’s Story by Rosiee Thor – Book Review

Over the summer, I came upon a new obsession—the Life is Strange Series. I had always been interested in playing it; the game mechanics, the choices you make throughout the game will impact the ending, were what really drew me in. I have plans to write a full review of the games themselves, so expect that soon!

Right now, we’re going to be reviewing one of the tie-in books for the Life is Strange universe—Life is Strange: Steph’s Story, by Rosiee Thor. As always, this review will contain spoilers, so proceed with caution!

I had been looking for a copy of The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth for quite a while, and when I finally saw a copy at my local bookstore, I was so excited! I had been on the market for more positive LGBTQ+ stories with happy endings, and this one seemed to check all those boxes. However, when I started to read it, I realized I raised my expectations a little too high. As usual for my reviews, there will be spoilers, so if you want to read this book, tread carefully, for spoilers ahead!
