I lost track of the weeks and the movies, so here we gooooo
The Wild Robot

Definitely one of Dreamworks’ best. Made me tear up a bit throughout, and everything about this movie was phenomenal. I’m so glad Dreamworks is putting more stylized art styles in their movies, less 3D animation and more painted backgrounds. The voice cast was incredible, and having Catherine O’Hara in the cast reminded me of her performance in Over the Hedge (which was a movie that was on repeat during my childhood) (after watching The Wild Robot I rewatched Over the Hedge). Also, I think that shot of the whales swimming through the Golden Gate Bridge reminded me of Star Trek: The Voyage Home.
The Magic Flute

I watched this with my roommate, who knows more about the original opera than I. I had a fun time!
Kajilionare

Watched this after I read July’s All Fours! Evan Rachel Wood has my heart and soul. Also, this story, even though it had some holes, was so heartbreaking. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
The Watermelon Woman

Though there’s not a lot of plot, it’s a wonderful movie celebrating queer art and the importance of queer friends, as well as how far we’re willing to go for our art. There’s also the importance of getting all of your facts and history, and not jumping to conclusions. Side note, author Sarah Schulman makes a small appearance in the movie, and the reason why this is cool to me is that I recently purchased a copy of her novel Rat Bohemia (and the copy was signed!). I dunno, small world.
Wicked pt. 1

I never saw the Wicked broadway show, or read the original Wicked novel. I wasn’t even a fan of Wicked when I was a thriving theater kid. And yet, when I saw the first trailer for this movie, I could not contain my excitement. My roommate and I dressed up, and we were gasping and grabbing each other’s arms. The use of practical sets, live singing, it felt like seeing a live musical on stage. It brought me so much joy. (and even my father could get the “lesbian subtext” from Elphaba and Glinda. So there)
Woman of the Hour

This is what true crime stories should be–no sympathies for the serial killers, focusing on the victims and not idolizing the killer. Perfect, no notes.
Hundreds of Beavers

This was the most Movie of all time. There were plot twists left and right and my jaw was on the floor. Everyone should watch this piece of cinematic mastery. (A big part of the movie felt like a video game? Not complaining though)
