July Reads

Another great reading month! I powered through a lot of the books I already own, and rewarded myself with new books!

The Perks of Loving a Wallflower by Erica Ridley

I would watch Brigerton if it was this gay. LOVED having a gender-nonconforming main character, the chemistry and love story was so beautiful, I’m SO GLAD it had a happy ending…it was great.

Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli

I haven’t read any of Albertalli’s other works, but I’m very glad I read this one! Definitely encouraged me to get off the internet, go outside and touch grass.

Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. Talk about an opening line! I also did not expect to relate to it THIS HARD. Like, I might have to mention this book to my therapist.

You, Again by Kate Goldbeck

Two things: I haven’t seen When Harry Met Sally, which inspired this novel, and I could really tell this was repurposed Reylo fanfiction (Keylo Ren and Rey from Star Wars). From the cover I could tell that the male love interest was inspired by Adam Driver, but that was pretty much it. While most romances aren’t my cup of tea, this one felt refreshing and very realistic, and I had so much fun reading and listening to it.

Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler

While this one is lower on my Octavia E. Butler list, it was still a great read. Polyamourous Vampires! What more can you ask for?

When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill

I started this book earlier this year, and I had to take a quick break. I finally finished it last month with the help of audiobooks!! Female rage, generational trauma, I was genuinely angry at several parts of this book. A teeny bit slow, but the audiobook is a lifesaver.

The Ballad of Jacquotte Delahaye by Briony Cameron

QUEER PIRATES! QUEER PIRATES! A HISTORICAL FANTASY WITH A HAPPY ENDING FOR THE SAPPHICS! Need I say more?

Emmett by C. L. Rosen

I need to read more Jane Austen retellings (and also more Jane Austen in general). My friend gave me the ARC for this book, and I finally got the chance to read it! Super fun!

The Whalebone Theater by Joanna Quinn

As a former Theater Kid, I love stories that involve theater and the theatre, and this book was no exception. Very very heartbreaking, but with a very hopeful ending.
