Movie-a-week Log #2 – Weeks 6-17

On my quest to watch one new movie a week!

Migration

Kinda saw it on impulse with a friend, and it’s cute! LOVE the voice actors in this. Danny Devito?! Honestly Illumination is one of the better animation studios, and I will watch all of their films (also I thought they were making the upcoming Garfield movie but I was wrong?!).

Jennifer’s Body

I mainly watched this in preparation for watching Lisa Frankenstein, and I feel silly waiting this long in my adult life to watch it.

Lisa Frankienstin

I preordered my tickets for this. It was amazing. Surprisingly queer. GREAT soundtrack. I support weird girls and their weird hobbies and Lisa is one of them.

Aquamarine

Again, another movie I feel bad it took me so long to see. My friend offered to show it to us as an “anti-Valentines Day movie,” which, after watching it, makes sense! It’s all about friend love and growing up! It’s sweet! Now, the crush the gals had on this LIKE TWENTY YEAR OLD DUDE, and they were still like ten??? That was wild.

Drive Away Dolls

We need more fun lesbian movies with happy endings. Just movies with some not-too-smart lesbians doing funky things. I was surprised when the two main characters got together, but I’m not complaining–I just thought it would be more like Bottoms, where they stay besties. I still had fun!

Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia

Fun fact, I was in the ER for a night at the beginning of March, and as a treat for being so darn brave I got the sequel to one of my favorite animated movies. Just as cute and charming as the original. Didn’t have the voice actors from the original but can’t have everything. Also the captions were a little off from the dialogue, but it might be it’s captioning the French dialogue and not the English dub.

Poor Things (½)

The reason why I only watched half of it was because I was at a friend’s house when we started it, and I had to go home. I don’t have Hulu so I couldn’t finish it. Also, I have my opinions about this movie, but I don’t have the energy to delve into those right now. The cinematography rocked though.

Immaculate

Another movie I saw on impulse with a friend. I cheated a bit because I was curious about this movie before I saw it and read the synopsis on wikipedia before I saw it, so I knew the twist. Still kinda scary; let it be known I hate jump scares and excessive body horror.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (½)

I started this movie because I thought it would be a sweet little movie about a little shell trying to find his family. Instead, I had to stop it because one of the main plot points (spoilers ahead) is Marcel’s grandmother passing away. Still a sore subject after my own grandmother passed. The half I did see was pretty good.

Riddle of Fire

Y’all don’t need me to gush about this movie any more than I already had in my review!

A Cat in Paris

My friend told me about Kanopy, a streaming service that you can use with a library card. That’s how I found this one! Very sweet movie, love me some French animation.

Ernest and Celestine – Winter Tales

Not technically a movie, but a series of shorts featuring the beloved bear and mouse duo. Not much I can say, just very cute and sweet. Perfect “post surgery” watch.
